Since it is the end of the year and I haven’t posted in a while, I decided to do a two-part post on Kpop! (Don’t worry, I’ll be posting a video game review so it won’t just be Kpop stuff all the time now that I’m going to try posting more often (I say for the ?x time this year))
This first part will be my favorite group debuts of the year! I tried to include a lot of links to everything so it’s easy for everyone to find the videos I’m talking about.
Dreamcatcher debuted at the very beginning of the year from Happy Face Entertainment. They were formerly known as Minx but re-debuted as Dreamcatcher adding two new members making them a seven-member group.
I loved this group from the moment I saw their debut music video. They have a unique concept in the Kpop realm of music that reminds me of anime openings, which I also love. I really love all their music and after watching their other videos I have come to really love their personalities as well. They had two comebacks after their debut and I’m glad they’re keeping the same concept and are gaining popularity. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for next year! I have to say my favorite title track is still their debut song Chase Me, and my bias is Dami, the rapper (of course).
KARD is a co-ed group with two females and two males from DSP Entertainment that gained popularity last year during their pre-debut projects where they released three songs telling the story of a relationship that was good and then fell apart.
I fell in love with KARD after their Don’t Recall pre-debut project video so I was really anticipating their debut. While Hola Hola, their debut song, wasn’t exactly the style I was expecting them to do, I still loved it. Their recent comeback, You in Me, was probably my favorite song that they’ve ever done. I saw them at KCON LA this year and they were incredible to see. My bias is Somin and she is beautiful in person, though it is hard to have a bias because they are all beautiful and incredible. I love that they are a co-ed group and that they are pretty popular, I hope more co-ed groups will start to appear in the future.
Pristin is a girl group with ten members from Pledis Entertainment, with two members from the project girl group IOI. A few other members also were on the survival show Produce 101.
I was anticipating this debut because of the leader Nayoung, who was my bias in IOI, and that they are the sister group to my second favorite group Seventeen. Their debut song, Wee Woo, kinda had to grow on me at first but I love it now. I also enjoyed their first comeback, We Like, and I like that this group has already developed their own style even though they are new. They are really cute and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
I was following Samuel after I got into Seventeen and started watching the old videos he was in. After watching him grow up over the years I’m so proud of how far he’s come. I was really sad when Samuel didn’t make it into Wanna One after Produce 101. However, I am really glad that his company decided to debut him as a solo artist and after everything he’s been through I’m glad that he’s succeeding. He did a song with Chungha, the next artist I included on the list, and it was awesome. His comeback Candy was also great. I can’t wait to see what he puts out next year.
I didn’t keep up with Produce 101 season 1, but I did keep up with where the IOI members went after IOI’s disbandment. I didn’t really notice Chungha in IOI (there was eleven of them but I can’t say much since I stan Seventeen which has thirteen members), but I really loved her debut, Why Don’t You Know. She’s an awesome dancer and singer and I’m excited to see what her company, since they are small, does with her. I think it was interesting for her to debut as a solo artist, she’s the only one from IOI to do so, but I think it was a good choice.
6. Jeong Sewoon
I was not expecting this debut because I was not paying attention to produce 101 season two but I heard this song by chance and I love it. I can’t wait to see what else Sewoon is going to do in the future and I think it was a good idea for his company to debut him as a solo artist. I haven’t really watched anything with him in it yet but I really enjoyed the rest of his album so I will await his first comeback.
